During a hand-mining operation, a tragic incident occurred in which two workers were trapped owing to a rockfall, around 4.30pm. One individual, a 37-year-old man, tragically lost his life in the accident while his colleague was rescued, suffering severe injuries, and promptly airlifted to the hospital.
This unfortunate occurrence marks the 10th confirmed workplace fatality for the year 2024. Regrettably, this time last year, there were 14 similar work-related fatal incidents.
Such accidents underscore the crucial role of safety measures at workplaces. It’s particularly pertinent to have reliable WHS management systems such as the Bluesafe WHS Management System in place to prevent such occurrences. Policies and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), like the Bluesafe SWMS, are also instrumental in ensuring safety and reducing the likelihood of such workforce fatalities and serious injuries.
