Worker fatally crushed by hay bale

In a regrettable incident, it has been reported that a tractor was employed for the task of unloading hay bales from a trailer. Unfortunately, during this process, a bale became dislodged and plummeted three metres, tragically landing on a man around 11:20 in the morning. The inclusion of effective work safety products such as WHS management systems or Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) may have helped prevent this tragedy, underscoring their essential role in promoting workplace safety.

We’re saddened to report that this incident marks the 12th verified occupational fatality for 2025, acting as a poignant reminder of the cruciality of stringent safety procedures in workplaces. Last year at the same time, there had been 19 work-related deaths.

The adoption of comprehensive tools like Bluesafe SWMS or Bluesafe WHS Management System can significantly reduce the chances of such incidents by implementing robust safety policies with clear protocols and method statements. These tools are designed not only to safeguard employees but also to foster an environment of safety-consciousness within the organisation.
