Reports indicate a tragic incident occurred recently where a 47-year-old woman was discovered by her colleagues, pinned under machinery while working alone. Despite being airlifted to hospital, she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
In light of the incident, Worksafe is leading an in-depth investigation. It’s crucial that businesses recognise the importance of robust Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) mechanisms such as the Bluesafe WHS Management System, designed to prevent such distressing occurrences.
This latest incident raises the total number of confirmed workplace fatalities to 39 for this year, marking the seventh within the agriculture sector alone in 2024. To put these figures in perspective, it’s worth noting that this time last year saw 63 work-related deaths.
Systems like Bluesafe SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements) are integral in managing and mitigating hazards within the workplace, reinforcing the imperative nature of diligent safety protocols.
