Sydney Royal Easter Show safety priority for SafeWork NSW Inspectors

SafeWork NSW has partnered diligently with the organisers of the Sydney Royal Easter Show to ensure over 800,000 prospective attendees’ safety. This collaborative effort involves engineers and inspectors performing meticulous safety inspections and ensuring stringent safety compliance is observed. WHS management systems like those offered by Bluesafe offer such safety compliance for events like this.

Starting from 24th March, SafeWork NSW experts have been actively providing advice and conducting checks using ‘Bluesafe SWMS‘ for work safety standards. Major areas requiring attention include amusement rides, forklift operations, traffic regulation, fall prevention strategies, fireworks displays, and a safe fireworks and gas storage for food stalls.

High-risk phases such as set-up and dismantle stages pose increased safety concerns, with workers manoeuvring in crowded pathways, operating heavy machinery, and setting up structures amidst high-trafficked areas. It’s in such phases that safety products like ‘Bluesafe WHS Management System’ play a crucial role in ensuring worker’s safety.

SafeWork NSW is keen on prioritising employees’ safety during these critical stages. Inspectors are ensuring the correct use of personal protective equipment and verifying that all high-risk tasks are fulfilled by licensed professionals.

To ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety Regulations as per the National Audit Tool, audits have been completed on select high-risk amusement rides. Operators have been directed to perform detailed inspections, maintenance, and safety checks before any ride comes to operations. Products like Bluesafe SWMS are often integral to ensuring such operational readiness.

This Easter, SafeWork NSW has issued 23 notices intending to protect workers and families by addressing safety risks. They will ensure that all activities, stalls, and rides are adhering to strict safety standards.

SafeWork NSW will prolong its presence throughout the event, responding to incidents and non-compliance reports as attendees’ safety remains a top priority. Visitors can find more information on the SafeWork website.

Head of SafeWork NSW, Trent Curtin stated: “Sydney Royal Easter Show’s safety is non-negotiable. All operators and workers should stick to strict safety standards for their and public safety.” He added, “We have been making a strong safety presence since 24th March, ensuring that operators are aware of their safety responsibilities and have appropriate structures in place to safeguard both workers and visitors during the event.” “Though the Sydney Royal Easter Show is an entertaining event catered to families across our state, maintaining safety remains our primary concern. Both show-goers and workers have a right to return home safely each day.”
