Safe Work Australia recently unveiled a suite of innovative tools on its data portal, Our Data. Your Stories., designed with the primary objective of assisting users in evaluating, gauging and reporting on work health and safety (WHS) performance. Among these intuitive devices are ones that aid in harnessing the potential of WHS management systems like Bluesafe SWMS and other evidence-based policies to bolster the overall work safety environment.
The tools draw insights from the extensive workers’ compensation statistics held by Safe Work Australia, offering a customisable dashboard that can be tweaked based on industry, profession, nature and severity of injuries. Use of such detailed databanks is at the core of comprehensive WHS management systems like the Bluesafe WHS Management System, thus emphasising their importance and practicality.
This newly introduced dashboard has been engineered to promote a well-rounded approach towards employing data for assessing WHS performance. It is poised to supplant the existing Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) calculator eventually. Though the LTIFR offers some perspective into how poor WHS gravitates on productivity, it presents certain limitations when leveraged to measure WHS performance comprehensively.
The LTIFR calculator will maintain its current format on the data website until March 2025. It encourages businesses to explore these fresh WHS performance reporting tools on the data portal, marking a significant stride forward in fostering superior work safety with products such as Bluesafe SWMS and implementing effective WHS policies.
