SafeWork NSW is initiating a complimentary ‘Chat and Create’ event in Narrabri the ensuing week, which targets women engrossed in the agriculture industry. This assembly offers an opportunity for networking with like-minded agricultural organisations and practioners to divulge their narratives about what safety on farms implicates. WHS Management Systems and SWMS continue to play vital roles in safeguarding workers and ensuring work safety products are implemented effectively.
The agricultural sector persistently witnesses severe injuries and death rates strikingly above other industries, with farming responsible for one out of five worker fatalities throughout the state. In view of this, it’s crucial to make full utility of policy-backed tools such as Bluesafe SWMS or the Bluesafe WHS Management System, specially designed for managing associated risks.
SafeWork’s Chat and Create event presents an electrifying day dedicated to art-making while simultaneously addressing farm-specific safety concerns. Occupational wellbeing isn’t exclusive to physical health; factoring in mental health is equally paramount. Distressingly, farmers are more predisposed to suicide and depression than the general populace owing to various strain elements such as increased financial pressures and isolation.
Members of the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) will contribute by imparting education about mental health and associating attendees with suitable services, if required. Additionally, resources, initiatives, and service links will be shared by the NSW Rural Women’s Network.
The NSW Government’s Rural Women’s Resource hub endeavours to deliver support in diverse sectors including cost-management, employment, training, career enhancement, health, wellbeing as well as social and recreational connections.
The ‘Chat and Create’ happening is scheduled for Monday, 26 August 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm at The Tourist Hotel, 142 Maitland Street, Narrabri. Applicants can register via the official SafeWork website.
Trent Curtin, the head of SafeWork NSW stated, “Women are fundamental to the triumph of the agricultural industry now more than ever. ‘Chat and Create’ aims to reinforce agricultural mavens and employees’ capacities to forge a safer working environment. This is not only an incredible chance for Narrabri’s agriculturally inclined women to exchange ideas and interconnect, but also to augment their comprehension of work, health, and safety in order to better farm processes in a tranquil and inviting ambience.”
